General Position Summary
This position is responsible for planning and directing activities to ensure quality standards for company products by
performing the following duties.

Essential Job Functions
Food Safety Management
1 Develops a quality and product safety system that consistently meets HACCP, regulatory, customer, and third party
audit requirements.
2 Ensures accurate recording and maintenance of production logs and accident reports.
3 Utilizes customer and consumer complaint data to identify root causes of problems, then communicates and
provides support to implement process/product improvements.
4 Determines the disposition of all raw materials, packaging and finished products.
5 Informs management of any food safety or quality issues or of any processes which become noncompliant with
specified requirements.
6 Identifies, records any problems, and initiates actions relating to food safety and the quality of the ingredients,
processes, quality systems, or safety systems.
7 Controls further processing or delivery of nonconforming product in terms of food safety and quality issues until the
deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected.
8 Maintains all food safety related documents; prepares correspondence, memos and reports, and distributing/
collecting documentation
9 Provides assistance in the production/packaging areas to ensure the operation runs smoothly in compliance with the
policies and procedures.
10 Contacts suppliers for any food safety related issues and maintains proper documents submitted by suppliers.
11 Coordinates with the Quality Control Department of headquarters in Japan to improve food safety and quality
control procedures and to develop new product.

Food Safety Compliance
1 Communicates compliance results to operating groups; ensures timely feedback and disciplinary actions as
2 Communicates with the concerned parties, including regulatory and inspection authorities to comply with
3 Creates, updates, maintains and reviews food safety compliance forms and reports.
4 Plans and develops appropriate training for plant personnel to maintain documents.
5 Modifies training materials and programs; keeps up with new food safety procedures.
6 Conducts research on food safety and food science to maintain knowledge of legal requirements and government
reporting regulations affecting food safety, organic, and quality issues and compliance reporting.
7 Communicates constantly with external food safety experts in the industry and attends webinars and conference
8 Maintains and updates required licenses and certificates.

Safety Management
1 Observes workers on the job to evaluate working conditions, including lifting weights, climbing/reaching heights,
repetitive motions, and extreme environments.
2 Prepares analysis reports based on the collected data to recommend new and improved procedures and systems
regarding the workers' safety and health.
3 Trains employees in work site safety practice and correct handling techniques for machines, equipment, and other
4 Serves as a Safety Committee member; organizes section leader meetings concerning safety issues.
5 Ensures the production facility, including the lunch room, bathroom, and locker room is maintained in sanitary
condition; maintains MSDS sheets.
Other & Miscellaneous
1 Complies with all company policies and procedures.
2 Complies with OSHA/HACCP regulations.
3 Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe working area.
4 Seeks constant improvement, more efficient and less expensive ways and means in work processes.
5 Performs special projects and other miscellaneous duties as assigned by the Plant Manager
6 Maintains high ethical standards in the work place.
7 Reports all irregular issues and problems to management for solution.
8 Maintains good communication with management, other staff members and outside contacts.
9 Achieves positive relationships with customers, visitors, and all levels of company staff; treats others with respects

Job Specific Skills
Communication in English & Japanese (oral, reading, writing)

Education & Work Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to tree months related experience and/or training;
or equivalent combination of education and experience.
At least two years of previous experience in a similar position.

General office equipment including phones, fax, copier, scanner, postage machine, personal computer, etc.
Software includes the use of Windows operating system and Microsoft Office applications.

Certificates / Licenses
Food Safety Practitioner Certification; Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) Certification

Work Environment

Work is mostly performed in an office environment with quiet to moderate noise levels. Work may be occasionally
performed in a factory environment with very loud noise levels.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to frequently sit, stand, walk, and use hands and
fingers and reach with hands and arms. The employee must repeatedly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

Specific vision abilities include the ability to read and analyze data in hard copy and on a computer screen, measure or
identify using eyesight and adjust vision focus.
No travel is required.
